Rural New Zealand - inks

Cottage at Fruitlands

Medium: - acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
This is a well-known, much photographed abandoned cottage. I couldn’t resist drawing it. If only these walls could talk…

Tumbledown farm near Te Waewae

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
I found this abandoned farmhouse with its old bathtub serving as a water trough for cattle. Nothing like a bit of recycling.

Character villa near Carey's Bay

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
This character villa had a hilltop view from Blueskin Road and must have been prime rural real estate at one time. The corrugated iron was a riot of rusting colours and the painted weather boards were flaking and giving in to the elements. Old New Zealand was before me and so, I added the flag to the house. I think it deserved it.

Secret woolshed near Lawrence

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
This woolshed was well hidden in a bushy dell but the colours of the boards and the architecture of the building caught my eye. The land around it has recently been cleared as part of the Clutha Gold trail upgrade. Soon it won't be such a secret spot anymore and more people will be able to take the time to stop and admire this lovely old building.

Old barn and water pump

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
The location for this building is solely in my imagination.

Stone cottage near Hyde SOLD

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
I can’t exactly remember where this cottage is situated but it is somewhere on the road to Dunedin. I kept thinking about how small a living space used to be, intent to provide a warm haven in winter and a cool refuge in summer.

Woolshed near Parawa

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches

This is a grand old woodshed which can be seen from the road between Garston and Athol.

Faded farmhouse near Takaka

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
Located on the way to Takaka, I think this grand old villa could tell some stories, but it has been left to slowly fade away. Lace curtains still billow in the windows and deer antlers still hold pride of place on the front porch.

Winter at the Woolshed near Athol SOLD

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
Built to attend to mighty sized mobs this woolshed is an impressive structure.

Bach near Seddonville 1

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
I can’t exactly remember where I came across this old shed but it was somewhere near Seddonville. I liked it and had to turn it into a composition. Some artistic licence was employed for this one.

Cattle yards near Hagley Park, Christchurch

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
The old cattle yards used to be right in the centre of the city near Hagley Park. They are long gone but I remember them well.

Rabbit State near Seddonville 2

Medium:- acrylic ink on paper.
Size:- A1 - 23 * 33 inches
A typical kiwi homestead near Seddonville. The rabbit was my own addition!
